In our recent work with Vanderbilt university we show how a hybrid waveguide for both mid-infrared and near-infrared light can be creating by combining silicon and hexagonal boron nitride. By matching the wavelength of polariton modes supported in hBN with near infrared light in a Si waveguidewe create an optical component which can guide two different wavelengths at the same time. We are able to guide light along both straight and bent sections in a waveguide, measuring proagation constants using near-field microscopy
